FAQs

Do we have to be a member of the Afton Village Swim Club?

Yes, our league requires all swim team participants to be members in good standing with their pool.  Afton Village Swim Club offers two membership options swim-team only membership (May-June) and a full time membership.

How old does my swimmer have to be to join the team?

Swimmers must be 4-18 as of May 1st and must be able to swim the length of the pool (25 yeards) unassisted in under 60 seconds.  

How many practices must my swimmer attend each week?

We recommend swimmers attend as many practices as possible throughout the season.

What events will my swimmer swim at swim meets?

Our league sets a maximum number of events an individual swimmer may swim (up to 3 individual and up to 2 relay, 11 and up can also swim IM) and sets a maximum number of swimmers for each event per team.  The exception is freestyle, each swimmer is guaranteed to swim freestyle and at least one relay.

Are parents required to volunteer?

We cannot make swim team work without you! Every family is required to volunteer for 3 shifts during the season. If the volunteering requirements aren't met, your swimmer will not be eligible to swim and no refunds will be given. 

What is the difference between a half lapper and a 6u swimmer?

My swimmer swims with a USA swim team, can they swim with Afton?

MSBSC requires that swimmers stop all practices and competitions with USA affiliated teams/organizations after the end of short-course season. The drop date is March 9 for the 2025 season.

What is the inclement weather policy?

Our coaches will follow the American Red Cross guidelines for inclement weather. In the event of a thunderstorm or impending storms, the coaches will decide to delay or cancel practice. We will communicate by email and swimtopia app all practice/meet delays or cancellations.
